Improve Campus Safety:


Due to increasing reports of acts of theft and violence in Ann Arbor, I feel that it is important to provide a safer environment for higher learning. This past January, our student body witnessed a surge of publicity due to the homicide of an Ypsilanti man not too far from campus. This type of news sent a shock of uncertainty regarding safety on campus through the minds of many students. As a result, I feel that it is important to address this growing concern of providing efficient campus security for all students and maintaining an environment conducive to learning.


If elected, I want to work with the administration on the successful implementation of a student-friendly text messaging alert system and also an improved email alert system. I think it is important to maintain an email alert system, and I will work to improve the speed and efficiency of emails sent to all University students. I feel that this will improve campus awareness and will give students the most efficient means to respond to safety emergencies. Furthermore, it will deduce the possibility of students coming in contact with potential threats that may be present on campus.

Electronic Student Event Database:


The current climate on campus reflects a mood of apathy. I have personally seen a drop in participation among students within student organizations and involvement in socially conscious programs offered around the university. A large reason for the lack of attendance is attributed to disinterest; however, many students have expressed a desire to become more active, but are not sure where to look. The way to bridge this gap is to provide an electronic system that allows for student groups to post upcoming events and activities.

If elected, I would like to work with the current administration and the ITCS office to establish a database that will allow for students and organizations to put up events that are related to activities that are located on the university campus or related to student activities. This database would be monitored by a liaison group within MSA to ensure that events posted are respectful and add to the productive learning of the university. This electronic addition to the university would help facilitate involvement amongst different demographics of students and create a greater sense of community.

Improving Campus Relations
In the wake of Proposal 2, I feel that now more than ever, relationships between minority groups and university administration must be strengthened. I feel that it is important to have strong connections amongst university faculty and minority leaders around the university to help facilitate the growth and development of underrepresented students on this campus.

If elected, I plan to help facilitate and improve the relationships between university administration and underrepresented groups on campus. With the help of the administration, I plan on organizing frequent meetings with different minority leaders on campus and the current administration. I feel that this will help diffuse ideas into the major student body and will allow for more innovative ideas embedded within these communities to come to the forefront. This will improve the current climate of the university and will ensure that the university remains a pillar for diversity for years to come.
